WPOTWF announces 2020 dates
New Zealand’s most exciting water polo event is returning in 2020 - and promises to be bigger and better than the inaugural tournament.
After the huge success of 2019, Water Polo on the Waterfront (WPOTWF) is delighted to announce the dates for the 2020 competition as January 3rd-4th.
WPOTWF co-organiser Danny Kayes says bringing the event into the height of the Kiwi holiday period will help to solidify it as a must-do on the summer calendar.

“We want as many eyes on the sport as possible; what better place to do it than on the Tauranga Harbour in the middle of summer,” he said.
The second running of WPOTWF will see the introduction of a women’s competition, taking place simultaneously with the men’s tournament and promising more action for spectators.
“There’re going to be two pools running at once so it’ll definitely be a feast for the eyes,” said co-organiser Leona Smith.
The first running of the event at the newly-constructed Tauranga tidal stairs brought a spectacular two days of fast-paced, high energy water polo.

Players had to not only battle with one another; but with strong tides and that added another element to the games.
Kayes said the conditions are set to be kinder come January.
“The current’s not expected to be as dramatic this time around, it’ll still play a part but it won’t be quite as tough on the players.”
Entry details will be confirmed in the coming months. See you in 2020!
